DOGS AND US
WE AREN'T LIKE ANYONE ELSE!!
ABOUT US
My love for dogs began as a child but a pet was not an option at the time, so as soon as I was able, it all changed.
The first dog was a beautiful black Labrador shortly followed by a German Shepherd. Two years later they were joined by a 7 month old red Cocker Spaniel. I'd no idea how to care for her coat, so took her to a local dog grooming salon, and cried when she came back! Her coat had been shaved off to stubble. I vowed she'd never go there again!
I had several Cockers over the years which were shown and bred on a hobby level.I wanted them to look like the show dogs, I had fallen in love with.I loved the long silky coats and the grooming services I used then, all wanted to clip them short. So I bought books, asked questions and learned to do them myself.
My last Cocker was about 15 years ago. Sadly to be my last. My circumstances had changed by then and I was working full time.
For years I have thought about being "my own boss" but was undecided which area it would be in. The main criteria was job satisfaction.
Early in 2007 a chance remark made me look into dog grooming.I researched various courses and options. With encouragement & support from Phil I enrolled on a City & Guilds course in The Cotswolds with a lovely tutor called Kate!
In January 2008 we started to get to work on the plans. Phil was working on the old outhouse conversion every second he could.I started in a small way in March with dogs from family & friends, and in June MUTZZ NUTZ was opened part time with me working in there full time from September.
When possible Phil joins me and he enjoys it as much as do and is handy when the big dogs are in to help them into the bath!
2012 sees us entering our 4th year. A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OUR REGULAR CUSTOMERS FOR SUPPORTING US!!
I think we can now say we are "established". If you prefer a smaller, more intimate service where the visiting dogs are treated like "one of the family", give us a try!
The Mutzz Nutz
We enjoy our work.We love all dogs and can cater for most whether it is a tiny Toy or a massive Mastiff! We offer a personalised service to all of our regular clients that include early evenings and Saturday a.m when we can. However these go fast and there is usually a waiting list.We will do as much or as little as you want, from breed standard to your own
We try and understand your dog, his moods, his behaviour. Body language is a great indicator as to how he is going to react. Dogs do not always like grooming, mainly because they don't understand it's purpose! Two hours of standing still, being bathed in clean water, and then dried with a giant noisy machine! So we tread very carefully with all proceedures.
Dogs have three instinctive reactions to situations in which they feel insecure or challenged: freeze, flight, or fight. Most dogs will opt to either freeze, and hope to go unnoticed or appear too insignificant to bother with, or to run away from a stressful situation. If freeze is not working, and they cannot run, they then have no choice but fight. A shy/nervous dog, forced to accept the attentions of a stranger, may growl, snap, or bite out of fear. There are several reasons why a dog may exhibit shyness - lack of early and ongoing socialisation, lack of confidence due to an unpleasant experience, or genetic predisposition.
We are a small salon and less intimidating than some so for a friendly, efficient service for all of your dogs grooming needs - call us now or drop us an email. Your dog won't be disappointed!
