At MUTZZ NUTZ we offer a personalised one to one service, that gives you and your dog the best of everything in Swadlincote and the surrounding areas.

We will try to de tangle rather than automatically clip off BUT if your dog is matted ( and matted can mean an excess of undercoat build which is of course next to the skin) we may have to clip off in kindness to him. It is not fair to any animal, to expect it to stand for hours on end, and tolerate a painful process (even if it is done gently).AND WE WILL ALWAYS DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOUR DOG. IF A CLIP OFF IS THE KINDEST COURSE OF ACTION,WE WILL ADVISE YOU AT THE TIME OF THE APPOINTMENT.

Why do we charge more? We cannot bath & dry a dog if its coat is matted. The drying process tightens up the mats and also the shampoos are not able to penetrate through heavy mats. We usually pre clip before a bath so the shampoo is more effective and the drying time is cut down. Heavily matted coats can be full of anything : dirt, grit, grass, thorns etc and need to be out before bathing

New blades average £30 whilst new scissors are over £50. Then there are the extra products used , shampoo conditioner and anti static spray etc. AND my time and skill... when you are working with tight mats that are very close to the skin you have to take it steady or risk nicking the skin...it is something to be taken seriously.

It isn't my fault your dog is matted!!!

Dogs have a pain threshold like we do, and on a par with a 2 year old. Heavy mats can pull at the skin anyway, and cutting them off can do the same. It can take 20 mins to pick out a 2" mat of hair! Multiply that by 5 mats? It is extra time standing for your dog, that can be avoided if if he is well maintained. This is why clipping out or off is usually the best option.

  • If your dog has health problems you MUST make us aware. These can range from eczema, allergies to fits and convulsions.
  • If your bitch is in season, I need to be told before hand
  • We do not muzzle but we need to be aware if your dog has behavioural problems and is nasty in any way please advise at the time the appointment is being made.

A WORD ABOUT POODLE/CHON CROSSES (LABRADOR CROSSES IN PARTICULAR)

  • The wavy/scruffy coated type are from £25.These are usually the dogs that moult.
  • The wool/ fleece coats are from £40. They are usually NON MOULTING with terrific heavy undercoats!! And can take at least 1.5hrs to 2 hours just to bath & dry!

They are very high maintainance and very few owners realise this when they buy them. They fall in love with the long, shaggy coat not realising it is hours and hours of brushing to release the undercoat. The coats in order to be practical need to be kept shorter and regular visits to the groomers ie every 4 - 6 weeks are a must.

I will advise a short cut and a visit every 6 weeks with you continually brushing and removing the old undercoat. That way the visit can be kept to 2 - 3 hours on the table at a charge of £40.

If you wish to keep the coat long, the visit length increases to 4 hours minimum. I do not like dogs on a table for that length of time, it is not fair to them So the visit is split into two sessions maybe at £30 -£40 a time.Yes they are that much hard work! And this is if you brush/undercoat remove, if you don't it will be more.
